Floating Island

This is Robert Smithson's "Floating Island", a project originally conceived in 1970. These photos were shot on September 24th, the penultimate day of the exhibit, from the pedestrian walkway on the Manhattan Bridge. As far as public art installations go, "The Gates" earlier this year was more interesting (and easier to photograph).
